Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne lived in two houses in Concord: The Old Manse, which they rented, and the Wayside, which they bought from the Alcotts and renovated. Both houses have been preserved and are open to the public.
Hawthorne is buried in Author’s Ridge in Concord’s Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Ever since I started researching and writing this book about his family, I have gone on pilgrimages to the cemetery to ask for support from him and the other spirits who reside there. I think they gave me their blessings, because the final proof has been approved and the book is in the queue for the next publishing steps.
